The Imperial Palace is one of the most important and famous landmarks in all of Japan. Located near Tokyo Station, the palace is the official residence of the Emperor of Japan and sits in the centre of Tokyo surrounded by nature, moats, stone walls, and beautiful gardens. Even though the city around it is filled with busy streets and skyscrapers, the Imperial Palace area feels peaceful and quiet, almost like stepping into a completely different world.

Visitors can walk through traditional Japanese gardens filled with unique trees, flowers, and plants that create scents and scenery that feel very different from nature in North America. The paths are extremely clean and well maintained, making it a relaxing place to walk around and take in the views. There are also old castle ruins, bridges, and massive stone walls that show the history of old Japan and Edo Castle. During spring the cherry blossoms make the area even more beautiful and attract many photographers and tourists.

This is one of the best places in Tokyo to bring a good camera because there are so many opportunities for amazing photos of Japanese nature, historic architecture, and skyline views all in one area. The famous Nijubashi Bridge near the palace is one of the most photographed locations in Tokyo because of how beautiful the scenery looks with the palace and city in the background. The Imperial Palace is about a 15 minute walk from Tokyo Station, but the peaceful atmosphere and incredible scenery make it completely worth the walk.
